Dorksplosion Podcast Episode 3: Low Fantasy Vs. High Fantasy
Well it’s Friday and you know what that means. It’s time for another half hour (ish) installment of the Dorksplosion Podcast. We are joined again by Will Weldon, Asterios Kokkinos and me, Andrew DeWitt. This week we explore the advantages/disadvantages of having less or more magic in DnD campaigns, video games and fiction.
Pop on the headphones for some NSFW language cause we like to say “fuck” almost as we like to argue over the logic of spell use.
Which do you think is better in a Role Playing game, realism or high fantasy?

I’ve never met a friend that would play high fantasy, so I don’t know.
-
gameground answered:
In my opinion, the basis of Role Playing is to try something you can’t do in real life, so high fantasy is probably better in that sense

jtyec answered:
realism, the immersion makes those key decisions a lot harder on your conscience.

Realism for this reason: It enabes the player to feel what the caracter is passing thru making it more relatible.

yesdoctor answered:
I say both. If you push either too far it just gets awkward :D

I’d say high fantasy.. I do the whole RPG and I do high fantasy. It just seems more fun then doing realism.

missxpiss answered:
A game can have a balanced level of both. But I find they can be both realistic or high fantasy and be successfull :P
